Mum's emotional photo shows breastfeeding struggle is real

For those who choose to breastfeed, the process can be either dreamy or difficult — but women in the latter camp often face doubt and judgment from others who do not understand.

Now one mum has taken to Instagram to attest that the struggles she has faced with nursing her infant are real.

Angela Burzo shared a photo of herself trying to breastfeed her 13-day-old daughter, along with a heartfelt post detailing her numerous frustrations.

“I love seeing all these beautiful women in their beautiful nursing clothes smiling down at their babes as they lovingly look up back at them hand in hand while breastfeeding away,” she wrote.

“That is not my reality, right now that is. This is real and as much as I want to stay strong and be the soldier I feel I can be, I cannot hide the struggle that is breastfeeding.”

Angela went on to share how much pain she’s encountered, how her baby’s been “sucking and not eating,” and how she tried to introduce her infant to a bottle.

“Whether she is not latching on properly, whether I am not producing enough milk to keep up with her demand, whether my nipples might not be adequate, whether we confused her with having to give her a bottle after pumping… Whatever it may be it has been an emotional and painful struggle,” she wrote.

There has been plenty of crying and not enough naps, which have left both mum and baby feeling frustrated.

“Oh how I feel this image… For me, it was initially hellish burning pain as if a tendon or so were pulled out. I often asked myself why I do this… Please keep your head up and stay strong,” one wrote.

“Came across this post and can so much relate in this moment. My little one is 4 weeks old and I go through the same exact struggle. Thank you for posting this! It’s given me an extra bit of strength to know I’m not alone,” wrote another.

Angela ended her post saying “Thank you to all those women coming to my rescue even the times I didn’t reach out. All your kind words and encouragement have been a blessing.”
