Michelle Bridges is a 'brick wall' over baby Axel's diet

She’s made a living out of inspiring people to keep fit and Michelle Bridges has revealed that it’s no different when it comes to her one-year-old son Axel.

The 46-year-old fitness guru, who is the face of Medibank’s new Free + Active program, told Be that she tries to keep her one-year-old son’s diet as balanced as possible – but it isn’t always that easy.

“We don’t have junk food in our house.

“I’m a bit of a brick wall when it comes to yes or no but then there are times when I say yes.”

Michelle recommends parents lead by example with their children and “be consistent” with their diet.

“I think it’s got to feel well within you and perhaps how you were brought up or what your personal guidelines and rules are around that,” she said.

“I try to be very balanced in my approach.”

Michelle has been dating Steve ‘The Commando’ Willis since 2014 and he already has three children from a previous relationship.

The star said they both love to get out and about with the kids to keep everyone fit and healthy.

It comes as the Medibank research showed that only seven per cent of Australian kids are getting one hour of exercise a day and one out of every two adults haven’t exercised at all in the past three months.

“I took Axel and Steve’s kids to one of the park runs that we did here and it was fun” Michelle said.

“Axel was in the pram, the kids did it, we walked some of it, we jogged some of it there were dogs and it was a really nice community vibe.

“We got home and we both looked at each other and went ‘wow we just got our exercise in as well as blowing off some steam for the kids', it was great.”

Michelle said she felt “sad” when she heard the shocking statistics released by Medibank, showing how many Aussies find it hard to get motivated to workout.

“I know how it can happen to people that they can get out of that habit or that routine and I also know the headspace that you don’t feel like you’re being the best version of yourself and it can be a spiral,” she said.

Michelle credits her partner Steve for giving her the support she needs to muster up the energy to workout.

“Steve’s great for me and I’m great for him some days,” she said.

“I’m like ‘I can’t’ and he’s like ‘come on missy let’s go’ and having that support can really keep you on track.”

She also says she cuts herself “a bit of slack” and won’t push herself to workout if she’s not feeling up to it.

“I don’t train like a rock star every single day,” she said.

“If after 10 minutes I still don’t want to do it, I’ll give myself a ‘get out of jail’ free card but after 10 minutes you kind of just go ‘I’m here now’.”
