Mum won't let daughter be taught by obese teacher

A mother has revealed she wouldn't let her two-year-old attend a certain nursery because the assistant was overweight.

Writing for the Daily Mail, journalist Hilary Freeman said that although the woman in her 20’s was “kind and great with children”, she couldn’t help but worry about the habits she was teaching her daughter.

Hilary decided to send her daughter to another nursery, where the teachers were all “a healthy weight” but admits she didn’t tell her friends and family the truth.

“Looking around, I noticed that she wasn’t the only extremely overweight member of staff,” Hilary wrote for the Daily Mail.

“I couldn’t help worrying about the message this was sending to the children in their care: that being very fat is normal and — when children adopt role models so readily — even desirable.

“My anxiety about this was the main reason I chose not to send my daughter to that nursery, despite its Ofsted rating of ‘Good’.”

She said she told her family that she just liked the second nursery better than the first one.

Hilary went on to claim that maybe her issue with overweight people stemmed from her own struggles with eating and her weight.

She had a thyroid problem which saw her weight balloon, however she remains adamant that people aren’t born obese and become overweight over time.
