Mum’s messy lounge room is lesson to parents everywhere

If you’ve ever looked around your living room covered in dirty laundry and toys despairingly, take a leaf out of blogger Lacey Ralston’s book when it comes to realising what’s important.

The mum-of-two posted a very honest snap of her lounge room, scattered with the debris and destruction of having young kids, with an explanation that has won the internet’s heart.

“Sitting here with 2 conflicting thoughts about this picture,” Lacey wrote.

“I'm f**king tired. I'm tired of asking everyone to pick up, including myself. I'm tired of living in chaos. I'm a horrible housewife. I'm at a loss. I feel discouraged. I'm embarrassed. I want a nap.”

Rather than focus on the negative though, the Canadian mum refused to feel any guilt for putting her feet up and taking a moment to herself.

"As I type, my eldest is doing the dishes. My youngest is playing with cars quietly at my feet. They are happy. I'm taking a well deserved break and sitting on my ass. My kids are happy and very much loved,” she wrote.

“This picture shows that we have fun in this house, that we have jobs and that we are busy ensuring ourselves and our children experience life.”

It’s something Lacey wants other mums to do as well.

“Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves?” she wrote. “I think we do it more than society does: In our heads trying to be the perfect wife, mother, daughter, friend or employee. Today I take a break. Tonight I take a bath.”

Amen to that!
