Kate and Prince William's favourite royal baby name revealed

Royal fans were delighted to catch a glimpse of the Duchess of Cambridge's baby bump when she stepped out earlier this week, and speculation is rife that Prince William and Kate might already have a few names in mind when it comes to the royal baby.

Bookies are having a field day following a flurry of bets, with punters placing money on Kate and Prince William naming their baby Alice or Arthur .

The 35-year-old royal hasn’t been seen since August, having been forced to take six weeks off royal duties (and announce her pregnancy earlier than planned) after suffering from severe morning sickness, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, once again.

But her recent appearance has sparked renewed excitement about the forthcoming royal baby, not to mention guesses about the name the couple might choose.

Though Coral had placed Elizabeth as the hot favourite bookies have been surprised by bets being placed on the name Alice, with odds slashed from 10/1 to just 7/1.

Joint second favourites are Arthur and Victoria at 10/1, ahead of Alexandra and Albert, both coming in at 12/1.

“Kate’s first public appearance since the pregnancy was announced is likely to increase the excitement about her and William’s third child, and the two names at the head of our betting so far are Alice and Victoria, with Arthur proving the most popular name for a boy at this stage,” Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead told Daily Star.

If the baby is a girl Alice and Victoria are topping the list of favourites at Paddy Power at 10/1, while Arthur and Henry are predicted to be the choice if the baby turns out to be a boy.

Bookies William Hill also place Alice as the favourite at 8/1 but naming the baby Elizabeth after William’s grandmother is a close second at 10/1.

Their favourite male name was James at 10/1 followed by Arthur and Philip at 12/1.

Commenting on the royal baby name Katie Baylis, Betfair Spokesperson, said: “We have Alice and Victoria as 10/1 favourites if the child is a girl and Arthur and Henry also at 10/1 as favourites for a boy.”

“Alice could be one to watch out for if the child is a girl, as when Kate was pregnant with Charlotte, Alice was heavily backed by punters and went from 50/1 into the 5/2 favourite at one stage.”

“As the world marks 20 years since the death of the Princess of Wales, Diana is at 20/1, while Elizabeth and Phillip are both at 16/1 and Charles 33/1.”

“Carole, the name of Kate’s mother is a 100/1 outsider, as is that of Camilla.”

Though it is not yet known whether the loved-up couple are having a boy or a girl, royal fans have been speculating whether the outfit Kate chose for her first public appearance could have been a clue to the sex of their unborn baby.

The Cambridges were attending a reception for World Mental Health Day at Buckingham Palace with Kate wearing an elegant pale blue dress by Temperley.

Husband, William also chose a blue tie, and the Internet has been wondering if the couple were giving a gender hint with their colour choice.

“Is that blue stunning dress a sign for a boy?” one fan wrote on the Kensington Palace Instagram account .

“Does all the blue mean another prince?!” another questioned.

It isn’t the first time the couple could have given away details about the royal baby. Last month William was said to have given away the duchess’ due date while speaking to midwives.
