‘Six pack mum’ shamed for newborn photo hits back
The moment you get to take your newborn baby home for the first time is an extremely special one.
But for fitness blogger Sarah Stage, AKA six pack mum, it was overshadowed by the barrage of backlash she received for being pictured in skinny jeans while leaving hospital after having a C-section.
Not one to let the trolls win, the mum-of-two hit back on Instagram today with a post that put everything back into perspective.
“Well, it’s been a week since Baby Logan was born and there’s been so much on my mind!” she wrote alongside a photo of herself (defiantly in another pair of skinny jeans) with her newborn.
“We are so happy and baby is doing great! I’m slowly but surely recovering from another c section! If we aren’t at a doctor’s appointment then I’m usually in bed most of the day because my incision is still healing obviously!
“I wear pads the size of [a plane] and jeans/jeggings hold them in place (so kindly stfu if you’re going to judge a woman who just gave birth on just her outfit).”
The original image posted last week showed Sarah, 33, sitting in a wheelchair pushed by her husband, and it left many of her followers questioning how she squeezed into jeans so soon after giving birth.
“U looked gorg… me on the other hand … I remember coming home from hosp… c/sec…looked like a swollen pumpkin, esp with all the iv fluids…” wrote one woman. Another penned, “Girl how on earth are you wearing jeans after a c-section?”
In her response post, mum-of-two Sarah said she also got messages from people who were upset her make-up was done in the photo.
“My make-up team consisted of just me being in a hospital bed with a mirror and an extra 10 minutes... but who cares?” Sarah said.
“Why can’t we look and feel good whenever we want? Whether ur wearing make-up or not... you’re fabulous and it’s really no one’s business.”
She added that while social media may make people think she’s got the perfect life, that’s not the case.
“You know that JUST LIKE YOU, I’m doing the best I can while having swollen boobs, pads in my nursing bra, aeroplane pads, granny panties, baby spit up on my shirt, crazy hormones, no sleep BUT it’s all worth it!!
“I hope that Now, since I have ANOTHER healthy baby, it will show you that although we are all different, we all care about ONE outcome over anything else and that is a healthy baby and healthy pregnancy!!”
Sarah – who had a six pack throughout most of her pregnancy - was also heavily criticised for continuing to workout while expecting her second child.
She wrote in August: “Since I’ve announced my second pregnancy, I’ve had certain ‘Instagram medical experts’ tell me what I should and shouldn’t do..
“And while I find some of the comments hilarious, I choose to only listen to my OBGYN and of course I also listen to MY body. If something feels off, I don’t do it!
“I always do what’s best for my growing baby and put him first! It’s a proven medical fact that continuing exercising while pregnant has many health benefits for you and baby.”
