Mum sparks furious debate over professional potty trainer ad

It’s that testing time in a parent’s life that can strike fear in their hearts and make their washing machines go into overdrive.

But one mum’s approach to potty train her child hasn’t gone down well, after she posted an online ad seeking a professional to help teach her three-year-old how to use the toilet.

In an ad that’s since gone viral, the UK-based mum put out the request on childcare.co.uk, looking for a professional with extensive experience to help her and her husband - and warning their child didn’t respond well to authority.

“Both of us work full time in demanding jobs,” the woman writes in the ad.

“We have previously tried to toilet train her, but unfortunately due to our busy careers we’ve realised we simply do not have the time to do so.

“We are very conscious that our daughter should be using a toilet by now, and with the in laws coming over for Christmas, I am desperate to get her fully using the toilet by the 23rd December.”

The mum admits she’s happy to pay the right candidate whatever it takes.

“We are willing to pay the professional coach £50/hour [AU$90] to get her trained by the 23rd and if successful by this date we will also pay a handsome bonus!

"[Ten] hours of training, over five days per week would be ideal, but we are flexible and are willing to be negotiable for the right person.”

With the ad soon going viral, UK TV show This Morning spoke to a professional potty trainer who charges $890 a day, who says some of the parents are “very desperate” when they come to her.

However the idea of using a professional to toilet train your child didn’t go down well with some viewers, who took to Twitter with claims it was "madness".
