Rugby star’s newborn photo raises eyebrows
Former New Zealand rugby player Matthew Ridge and his new wife Chloe Alexa Liggins have welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world.
But when their new arrival made the news this week, it was a photo of the tiny tot sleeping that really got people talking.
The image in question sees the baby Kenzo dressed in a black and white onesie while two dogs watch him protectively from the background.
One person who saw the photo in Stuff, pointed out that the dogs appear to be pit bulls, which have been known to maul young children to death.
“It wouldn't have taken too wild a guess that Mathew Ridge owns a pit bull or two,” they said, “but what is unbelievable is laying your new baby next to them.”
“Mathew might want to Google the words ‘my pit bull has always been good around children. this was so unexpected’.”
Another reader commented, “Nice photos the dogs look scary.”
In Australia, American Pit Bull Terriers are listed as restricted dogs in many states.
Matthew is already a father of three with two adult children and a six-year-old from previous relationships, and although some commenters raised eyebrows about the dogs, others rushed to the parents’ defence, saying they probably know best.
Meanwhile another person questioned whether the child’s sleeping position was “safe”, prompting yet more discussion.
