Woman spent $70k to look like Barbie

While most girls outgrow their Barbie obsession before high school hits, Azusa Sakamoto admits she began collecting all-things Barbie from the age of 15.

"When I was 15 years old, I got a cute Barbie lunch box, and to me it loooked like American pop culture rather than a doll," explained Azusa Sakamoto to Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies on Weekend Sunrise.

The LA-local has spent $70,000 on Barbie merchandise, which includes 145 dolls, 40 pairs of shoes, 60 bags, and hundreds of pink accessories decorating her home.

"My whole house is covered in Barbie including my bedding, rugs, wall art, and if something isn’t Barbie then I’ll brand it myself with stickers and accessories," she said to The Sun.

Azusa, who works as a nail artist, says her boyfriend doesn't mind her pink obsession.

"He thinks it's pretty cool," she says. "He thinks it's better than having no hobbies."

Although her obsession may seem bizarre to some, the 34-year-old believes Barbie is so much more than just a plastic doll.

"Barbie isn’t just a doll, but an attitude and a fashion. Barbie is just perfect to me, I just love how she looks, she’s independent and she has such a positive attitude," she explained.
