Special students make teacher’s wedding party the cutest

Kinsey French didn’t just have one adorable flower girl or ring bearer at her wedding; rather, she had six of her tiniest co-workers (plus her niece and nephew) leading the way down the aisle.

From the looks of it, these members of her special ed class in Louisville, Ken., were the life of the party.

“They were like family to me,” French, a teacher at Christian Academy, told local station WLKY of her students, who have Down syndrome. “They were my first class, and they’ve been my only class, and so I knew I couldn’t have a special day without them.”

If you think this is typical, just ask any teacher you know — no matter how devoted — whether they’d consider having their students invade their biggest celebration. Then count on one hand how many of your own teachers’s weddings you attended as a kid. Exactly.

“It’s sweet things like this that make our jobs great,” photographer Lang Thomas wrote of French’s student wedding party on Instagram.

WLKY wasn’t content just to make us all teary-eyed at the sight of those kids dressed up in their wedding finest. Reporter Christina Mora got their colorful recap of the big day, which took place back in June.

“Mashed potatoes,” was one girl’s favorite memory of the wedding. Another student told of how he did the dab, whip, and nae-nae on the dance floor. Then the whole class gave a demonstration of their best dance moves.

“It was so exciting,” French recalled. “It was really special for Josh and myself just to have them a part of the day, and have them come with us and celebrate with us.”

The teacher seemed impressed with her students’ press skills too. “So blessed to work with these students and parents each year,” she wrote on Facebook after the report aired. “I love these guys with all my heart! The best part of the interview… ‘mashed potatoes.’ ”
