Woman's powerful response to 'pathetic' engagement ring

Some women expect five-carat diamond rings for their engagement, while others simply couldn't care if they had a piece of plastic wrapped around their finger.

At the end of the day it’s the gesture of committing your life to the one you love, no matter if the ring cost $20,000 or $2.

The reality is, the majority of us can’t afford the real deal and struggle to collect the money to afford an expensive diamond ring.

This was the case for Ariel McRae and her now-husband Quinn who mustered up all the money he had to buy her a Pandora engagement ring.

When the pair went to pick up the ring at the store in Martin, Tennessee, they found themselves being critisiced for choosing a “pathetic” ring for the important milestone.

Ariel took to her Facebook account to recall the heartbreaking incident and proves why you don’t need a huge sparkler on your finger to make the commitment.

“My husband doesn't have a lot, neither of us do. We scrape and scrape to pay bills and put food in our bellies, but after almost 2 years of dating we decided that we couldn't wait anymore, so we didn't.,” she wrote

I wasn't even thinking about rings, I just wanted to marry my best friend, but he wouldn't have it. He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora. Sterling silver and CZ to be exact,” she said, adding she now proudly wears the two pieces of jewellery on her ring finger and loves him more than ever.

She went on to describe the devastating scene: “While we were purchasing my rings however, another lady that was working there came over to help the lady selling them to us. She said, 'Y'all can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic.’

“When she said that I watched my now husband's face fall. He already felt bad because he couldn't afford the pear-shaped set that so obviously had my heart and covered my Pinterest page. He already felt like a failure, asking me again and again ‘Are you sure you'll be happy with these? Are you sure this is okay?’”

Ariel was devastated that her husband-to-be thought she wouldn’t want to marry him just because her rings didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

She went on to tell Quinn: "’It isn't the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that is.’ We bought the rings and left.”

“I would have gotten married to this man if it had been a 25 cent gumball machine ring,” the warm-hearted girl wrote, before posing the question: “When did our nation fall so far to think the only way a man can truly love a woman is if he buys her $3,000+ jewellery and makes a public decree of his affection with said flashy ring?”

Sure, which girl wouldn’t like a diamond on their finger, but when did it come to all that? Since when do material possessions equate love?

After leaving the store with her head held high, heart full of love and more certain than ever she didn't need a flashy ring, Ariel said: "But here I am though, Court-House married, $130 ring set, the love of my life by my side and happier than I could ever imagine.”

Fans jumped to Ariel’s defense claiming she “couldn't have said it any better!”

“My ring is CZ too! I'm still just as much married as I would've been with a real one!” another fan wrote.

“Yes my ring is real,” one fan admitted, “but it was $200 and like you it could have been a gum ball machine ring that turns your finger green and it would not have mattered to me, all that matters to me is the love my husband,” she revealed.
