Kate comforts family after child’s death

A young family’s heartache has deeply touched the Duchess of Cambridge.

While visiting a Norfolk hospice this week, Kate was moved to give parents Claire and Tristan Cork a hug after hearing that a brain tumour had tragically taken the life of their five-year-old son in August last year.

Doctors were unable to operate on the child and dad Tristan told the Princess that, “in the space of six months we had to watch [our son] go from being a healthy five-year-old, going to school, to watch him become so unwell.”

The couple are also parents to a 13-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, the latter of which presented Kate with a bunch of flowers.

The family told the Daily Mail that Kate was “very compassionate” and told them, “I'm a mum and I can't imagine what you've been through".

Claire and Tristan continue to receive counselling at the hospice that treated their son.

Kate’s visit comes after she went to a child bereavement centre earlier this month and spoke about how “parenting is tough”.

Speaking to families who had struggled through alcohol and substance abuse she said, “with the history and all the things and the experiences you've all witnessed, to do that on top of your own anxieties, and the lack of support you also received as mothers...I find it extraordinary how you've managed actually.”
