Pram mum slammed over Go Fund Me

A Sydney mum-to-be is under fire after setting up a Go Fund Me page for a top-line pram for her unborn baby.

Ashma Notley, who is 9 months pregnant, lost the $725 deposit she put down for a Bugaboo pram after the store she was purchasing it from closed down.

She had been given the deposit as a gift and took to crowd funding for help as a result, setting her target goal at $1,800 - the retail price of the pram.

However Notley's campaign is dividing commentators, with some criticising her move.

"OMG really - this is why people who need money to fund real causes can't get donations" wrote one. "People who use Go Fund Me for this type of idiocy. Just buy yourself a cheaper pram he doesn't need a Bugaboo!! If the fund me campaign is for your friends and family why not just ask them for money instead? You really need to take a good look at yourself!"

The Bugaboo pram is indeed a top-of-the line model, however Notley defends her page by saying it was only set up for her family and friends.

"I don't know why people have to troll and say nasty things," she wrote, "You have no right this is for my friends and family I'm not asking you "strangers" for your money so please keep your opinions to yourself."

Speaking to Be, Notley explained, "it all started about four days ago when I read a post on a mother's group on Facebook saying a company had gone bust and she was losing a deposit on a pram from Minimee at Crows Nest."

“I then tried contacting them via phone and email to hear nothing back, so I went in myself to find Grays Online workers clearing out the store. One of them gave me a card with a name and number to contact about my pram, which I immediately called to only get voicemail."

“I left a message and later got a call back saying I had lost my pram and my deposit. Just like that, no way around it nothing both just gone. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and that was the last thing I needed to hear as I'm also in between houses and having rather a rough start to the year.

“So my mum and father of the child thought why not do a Go Fund Me campaign to help raise the funds, as the deposit was given to me as a gift also. I felt horrible for losing the money even though it's not my fault.”
