James Hewitt 'can't move on' from Diana affair

It’s been over 30 years since they engaged in a love affair but now it’s been revealed that James Hewitt is still pining after his trysts with Princess Diana.

Diana and Hewitt met in the summer of 1986, when she hired the former military officer to teach her how to ride horses.

It wasn’t long before the duo started a five-year affair and sources claim Hewitt is still struggling to come to terms with everything he lost and “he can’t move on”.

A royal insider told New Idea Hewitt idles away his days driving past the cottage he and Diana once met up in, even though it’s been sold to a new owner.

“He rarely leave the home he shares with his mother, unless he needs to buy supplies from the shops,” the source said.

“He is sometimes seen parking outside the small cottage where he and Diana used to meet for romantic weekends away together.

“He spends hours in his car, just staring at the house.”

After Hewitt and Diana split he went on to co-author a book about their affair, called Princess in Love, which he reportedly earned $160,000 from.

He also went on to take part in numerous reality TV shows and in 2003 he tried to sell love letters that were shared between he and Diana for $16 million.

Hewitt spoke out in 2011 about the deep depression he found himself in once he realized his relationship with Diana was over.

“I got in my car and loaded a few things up to get on the ferry to go to France - to shoot myself,” he told US TV show Inside Edition.

“Then my mother insisted on coming with me. If she hadn't, I would probably have shot myself. So I owe her my life really.

“I felt I had let people down - probably myself, my family, my friends, the nation, the army, my regiment. Other than that, no one at all.”

Since then it’s been reported that Hewitt has lost the two businesses he invested in with the money he made from selling his story about Diana.

One was a bar in Marbella and another was a golf driving range.

It came after he was arrested for cocaine possession outside a restaurant, however he was later released and given a warning.

Now it’s claimed that he’s living with his mother in her two-bedroom Exeter apartment.
