Blogger shows 'reality of plus-size bikini shopping'

Shopping for swimwear can be a super nerve wrecking experience.

There you are, practically naked in front of the changing room mirror, just hoping and praying that nothing falls out! Now factor in boobs bigger than a C-cup and things can really get tricky.

Body positive blogger Aliss Bonython has highlighted exactly what the reality of bikini shopping looks like for many plus-sized and large-breasted women in a brutally honest Instagram post.

Sharing a photo of herself in a triangle bikini, Aliss – who has recently overcome an eating disorder - writes, “I used to get so disheartened when I would go shopping for swimwear with my friends who had no issue finding them.”

“I've always had too much boobs/ass/hips to wear straight sized bikinis and instead of punishing myself and my body for not fitting into this narrow ideal of sexy, I just look elsewhere.”

She goes on to recall the first time she tried on a bikini from a range designed to fit women of all shapes and sizes, and remembers “not feeling like I had to change myself to look ok, because it came fitting every curve on my body.”

“Massive thank you to all the brands who don't forget about us curvy girls,” she says.

After battling anorexia and depression, Aliss says body positivity has saved her life, and now uses her Instagram page to inspire and help others.

Just last week she opened up about how far she has come, writing, “I don't know how I ever hated this body so much, I punished myself for it.”

“I don't know how I could weigh myself more than once a day, just to see how much weight I could loose from fasting, only to base my self worth on the amount of pounds lost.

“I don't know how I let anyone tell me that this was a life to aspire to, and I needed to be thin in order to be happy.”

She goes on to say, “Finding body positivity saved my life, it enabled me to live a long and happy one, and find healthy ways to combat my eating disorder and depression.

“If my page can help one person from beginning a life of destruction, my goals will have been met. You are not worth less because you weigh more.”
