Mum's scathing note to daughter's teacher

A mother’s Facebook post has gone viral after she uploaded a letter she wrote to her 10-year-old daughter’s teacher.

Bunmi Laditan was getting increasingly frustrated with the amount of homework her daughter Maya was receiving in school and decided to do something about it.

The concerned mom said she has noticed how stressed her daughter has been getting over the years, with the young girl even waking up in the middle of the night and experiencing chest pains.

“Maya will be drastically reducing the amount of homework she does this year,” the letter started.

“She’s been very stressed and is starting to have physical symptoms such as chest pain and waking up at 4 a.m. worrying about her school workload.

“She’s not behind academically and very much enjoys school.”

Bunmi then goes on to say that they consulted with a tutor and a therapist who suggested they lighten their daughter’s workload.

“Doing 2-3 hours of homework after getting home at 4:30 is leaving little time for her to just be a child and enjoy family time and we’d like to avoid her sinking into a depression over this,” Bunmi finished the letter.

She then explained even further on the post about her decision to cut her daughter’s homework time.

“Children need downtime after school the same way adults need downtime after work,” she said.

“They need to play with their siblings. They need to bond with their parents in a relaxed atmosphere, not one where everyone is stressed about fractions because - SURPRISE- I'm not a teacher.

“Children need time to just enjoy their childhoods or is that just for the weekends (although we do homework on Sundays also).”
