Can you spot the four-inch spider hiding in the grass?

This incredible optical illusion photograph contains a potentially-deadly secret – an ‘invisible’ four-inch venomous wolf spider lurking in plain sight.

Amateur snapper Adam Newport captured the frustrating image outside his house in Queensland, and said everyone who has seen it refuses to believe there is a spider in the shot.

But when its location is revealed, the perfectly-camouflaged eight-legged insect – which can cause flesh to rot if its poisonous bite is left untreated – can be seen hiding in the grass.

“I caught this wolf spider inside my house in the bathroom and took it across the road to release it onto the grass,” Adam, a courier driver and part-time male model, said.

“It must have been 10cm across but when I put it down I was amazed at how well and quickly it blended in.

“I put it on the grass and thought I was looking at it but it was actually somewhere else in a different spot.

The venom of the wolf spider can be extremely painful but is not usually life-threatening.

In some cases it can cause skin necrosis – where the flesh is eaten away – but there are no reports of the creatures causing human deaths.

“Wolf spiders are pretty common in homes in this area – I have seen two in my home in the past seven or eight years – but they can be dangerous if they give you a bite,” 38-year-old Adam said.

“How well it can camouflage definitely makes it more dangerous – if you stood on it with bare feet it would definitely bite you.”
