Zoë Foster Blake's top pregnancy tips

She ended up on crutches for the last weeks of her first pregnancy but Zoë Foster Blake is making sure that doesn’t happen second time around.

In a previous post to her blog, Zotheysay, the mother to adorable tot, Sonny, revealed she developed osteitis pubis (inflammation of the pelvis) when she was pregnant for the first time.

But yesterday she said the pain is unfortunately back this time around and while it has’t yet developed any further, she’s taking precautions to keep it contained.

“In a nutshell, what started as some spicy, achey hip/groin/pubic pain from week 24, was deemed pelvic girdle pain, or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), which is common when you’re gestating,” she wrote about her first pregnancy.

“But mine developed into a fractured pubis, and then osteitis pubis, eventuating in crutches at week 31 until birth.”

Now Zoë said she’s now taking pilates this time around to help during her pregnancy.

She manages to pop down to a South Yarra studio twice a week and she says it’s helped regain “a sh***load of strength and mobility”.

The author and beauty guru, who is married to comedian Hamish Blake, also recommends trying to strengthen up your core if you’re pregnant.

“These muscles will support you through pregnancy, minimising pelvic instability/pain and low back pain, and help deliver your baby,” she wrote.

Zoë strengthening up your hamstrings and glutes so your pelvis and pelvic floor muscles have support.

“Increasing your mid-back strength will also support your deep core and get you strong for lifting the baby,” she wrote.

Zoë also said she listens to her body and knows how important working out is during pregnancy.

“Since I know what happen if I don’t do these exercises, I don’t miss a day. I expect some form or medal to arrive in the mail any day now,” she wrote.

And finally she says pregnancy is not a time to play the matyr but rather to take care of yourself.

“Ask your partner for a foot rub every night, with no guilt. Have a rest when you can,” she wrote.

“And, have as many massages as you can afford: don’t think of it as a luxury, your body desperately needs release and care.”
