Tanya Hennessy on how hateful comments really make her feel

The Interwebz are a wonderful thing.

Full of LOLs, beautiful people, and pretty things to inspire you to have the best and healthiest lifestyle possible.

But in one second, the dark web can ruin the most upbeat of moods - and even the funnest of humans aren’t safe. Take Tanya Hennessy for example. She’s Australia’s darling of funny online videos and she slays Hit 104.7 Canberra's breakfast radio show, but she receives big time hate.

“Even though I seem really confident, I’m actually super insecure. I think that’s the case with most creative people,” Tanya revealed at Be’s Yahoo7 Vivid Ideas ‘Selfie to Superstar' event on Wednesday.

When Tanya and fellow panelists Dan Conn, Taryn Williams and Alyce Tran of The Daily Edited, were asked how they deal with hateful comments online, Tanya’s response was refreshingly candid.

“I struggle with it, massively,” she shared.

“I am a big fan of the block, ban, delete. I’m too sensitive.”

Tanya makes videos for women to relate to and giggle at; A realistic makeup tutorial about the intimidating experience we’ve all had at the MAC counter, or what girls think and say when they’re getting their hair did. So why do haters get so flustered with her content and just how dark do they get?

“Someone once said the things they’d do to me are so brutal that they can’t even write them down - and that’s (a Canberra person) in the town I broadcast in so I’m kinda scared to do my shopping.”

Global Athletic Director for F45 training Dan Conn, says he’s getting used to people having their nasty 10-cents worth about him and says he confides in his two physcologist sisters to debrief.

“It’s got to be water off a duck’s back but it does tick away at you,” he said at Wednesday night’s panel.

But both Tanya and Dan say they can take the haters, but want more done by the legal system when it comes to today’s youth being digitally bullyied.

“I’m myself now - if someone says I am fat, or they hate me or I’m unfunny or I should hang myself - which people have told me before - I just have to get rid of it,” Tanya explained.

“What’s weird for me is that there’s no law and it’s not punishable. I think we need to look at digital laws and the fact there’s no protection for people who experience social media bullying.

“I am 31-years-old, I put myself out there, I can take it, but there’s children and teenagers out there who’ve taken their lives because of social media bullying - there needs to be more support and the legal system needs to get behind this.”

Amen, girl!
