This boy is cutting his hair for the sweetest reason

D’Arcy doesn’t like having his hair cut. He’s 11-years-old and hasn’t been to the hairdresser for a very long time.

But that’s all about to change. D’Arcy has autism and has decided that cutting his hair would be a good way to raise money for specialist autism care.

So a GoFundMe page has been started on his behalf which explains that, “If [D’Arcy] can raise $2,500.00 he will cut his hair and donate the hair to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre 'to help the sick kids who have lost their hair' and donate the proceeds to the Jacana School for Autism.”

“Two great causes, please help him achieve his goal and save mum and dad some grief trying to comb his hair,” the post goes on to say.

D’Arcy, who’s from the town of Sunbury, outside of Melbourne, already looks set to make his appointment at the hairdresser, with 35 people helping him to get to $1K in the past nine days.

And he’s not the only Aussie child using their long locks to help others.

Seven-year-old Lacey Garred from Lismore, NSW, cut all her hair off in February to give to children with alopecia and cancer.

Her mum Natasha tells Be that Lacey came to her with the idea after seeing something on TV.

“Lacey wanted to donate it because she has so much hair and knowing that some kids don’t have a chance to have hair so she just wanted to help out,” Natasha says. “She’s a very generous and caring little girl.”

Like Lacey, D’Arcy will have to go through a rather long process before being able to donate his hair, including a double wash and condition, sectioning the hair into pigtails with bands tied in sections all the way down the length, before finally cutting and storing.

We wish him loads of luck! If you want to donate, head over to his page.
