Turia Pitt: 'We're having a baby!'

Turia PItt has announced she's expecting her first baby – and it's due this December!

The 29-year-old marathon runner and Ironwoman discovered she was expecting just three days ahead of a planned trek to Mt Everest base camp – a journey that for obvious reasons she was unable to complete.

It was quite the surprising turn of events.

"F***!" was the first word that sprang to mind, Turia told 60 Minutes reporter Allison Langdon on Sunday night. "Stay calm!"

She told her fiancé Michael Hoskin while he was brushing his teeth.

“I just walked in and I left the pregnancy stick there,” Turia said.

“It makes me really stoked that I’m still here and I get to experience this.”

Turia became a household name in Australia after she was left with severe burns to 65% of her body in 2011, when the ultramarathon course she was running became engulfed in a bushfire.

She has since gone on to become a motivational speaker, as well as a key fundraiser for reconstructive surgery organisation, Interplast.
