Woman left with rotting nipples after horror surgery
When Kirsty Adam decided to have breast implants, she thought she was doing the right thing by doing her research and having the surgery in the UK rather than save money on cheaper procedures abroad.
Instead, the 24-year-old was left with black and rotting nipples after a botched procedure by a surgeon who has since fled the UK.

Kirsty reveals how she decided to get a mastopexy with implants to increase her bust size from a 36D to a DD cup, after weight loss saw her breasts sag.
"You hear more horror stories from people that go abroad than you do in the UK. And I thought I'd be safe here,” she said.
"You never think something bad is going to happen to you, but obviously it did. I've been left with lasting damage and it's even worse than before.
"It sounds harsh but it looks like somebody's hacked away at me with a blunt, rusty knife."
Glasgow-based Kirsty paid surgery company Transform $10,000 for the procedure in 2015, along with an insurance policy and extensive aftercare just in case anything went wrong.
Romanian surgeon Dr Vana Vasilescu performed the procedure with Kirsty going home a day after the operation.
It wasn’t until her first checkup that Kirsty knew something was wrong.
"After the surgery, I went to get my dressings changed. The nurse said that I had necrosis - rotting flesh.
"I knew this was possible from my research because the nipples are getting taken off and put back on and sometimes part of it can not heal right.
"Every time I went back they took bits off. I thought it was to help the skin regenerate and grow again.
"I looked down at it and it was black. I knew it shouldn't look that colour, but I trusted the nurse."
Kirsty eventually got another appointment to see Dr Vasilescu a few months later, after the surgeon had returned from holiday.
"She just took the plasters off and pulled a face. She said it was 'fine' and put new plasters on it,” explained Kirsty.
"I felt terrible. I knew something wasn't right.
"I don't know if it was the language barrier of whether it was ignorance, but she just didn't seem to have any compassion.
"I went out to reception to ask whether I could see another surgeon because I wasn't happy.
"I asked specifically not to see her and never saw her after that."
Kirsty then saw another surgeon who immediately put her on antibiotics after taking off her plasters and diagnosing an infection.
After attending further checkups, Kirsty was told that Dr Vasilescu had left the company – and also discovered a number of other young women had experienced similar problems after being treated by the surgeon.
She was investigated and has been banned from performing surgeries in the UK – but continues to work in her home country of Romania.
Meanwhile, Kirsty has been left scarred and forced to undergo further treatment including tattoo work to replace her nipples.
"Nothing is where it should be. Everything is too high up. My breasts are really hard, they're sore and I have no nipples,” she explained.
"I've put on weight because of the stress and not being able to keep active."
