Author claims Kate takes the 'magic' out of the royal family

Royal worshipers all over the world may love her but one author claims Kate Middleton has lead to a “less magical era of monarchy”.

In an ITV3 documentary, Kate: The Making of a Modern Queen, Sir Ferdinand Mount – who is a 3rd Baronet and a British author – said Kate’s background has made the royal family more accessible - and that's not a bad thing.

Instead of seeing this as a negative, the author claimed it has majorly swayed the public in favour of the royal family.

Unlike others before her, Kate has managed to live a relatively normal life and is often pictured out and about with her family – something that might have been unheard of years ago.

“So to that extent we have moved into a much less magical era of monarchy, one in which they seem to be much more people like us leading lives like us, of course they don't lead lives exactly like us,’ Sir Ferdinand Mount said.

“I think this will be something that far from weakens the whole of the monarchy in the public imagination, I should have thought it would strengthen it.”

The Baronet claimed Kate would be “unlikely to endanger the monarchy” should she become Queen one day and said she seems like a “cautious and modest” person.

Sarah Bradford, Viscountess Bangor, also appeared in the documentary and claimed the Middleton family has helped to bring the royal family into the 21st century.

“Kate's background has been very helpful to the monarchy, that happy family, everybody getting along well, being supportive of each other - with the Middletons that's been a considerable help," she said.

The documentary comes just days after it was reported the Queen held a ‘trail coronation’ for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

According to a report in New Idea, the Queen is extremely eager for William and his wife, Kate Middleton, to step up to the job, as she knows how popular they are with the public.

In fact, it's been claimed that the lavish state dinner to welcome the King and Queen of Spain to Kensington Palace last week was actually a "trial coronation".

"The Queen said she wanted to make the state banquet a "trial run' for William and Kate's coronation, so every effort was made to make them the stars of the night,” a royal insider told New Idea.

Indeed it was a lavish affair, with the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall all donning their finest garments on the night.

Kate Middleton was spotted looking nervous at the dinner in a stunning, blush pink, lace Marchesa gown matched with Diana's beloved pearl-encrusted tiara.
