Is this Australia's shonkiest festival?

A festival promising customers “a maze in a secret location in Sydney’ has left people furious.

The event, called "The Curious Labyrinth — maze music art", gained momentum online after it was advertised as a thrilling secret event for people looking to do something different on Saturday night.

However instead of being taken to a location which looked like the photos on the event Facebook group, some of the 500 revelers claim they were instead taken to a Bondi bar with shrubbery on the wall.

Organised by The Underground Party event group, tickets for the event were sold on Moshtix and 500 people needed to attend or else it wouldn’t go ahead.

“So invite your friends and come get lost,” the description read.

Tickets were $45 each and promised people their money would go towards getting “lost to find music, food, drinks and crazy characters amongst the hedges”.

The location of the event was revealed on Saturday morning and instead of the unique destination they were expecting, customers were told it would all take place at the Jam Factory in Bondi Junction.

Speaking to News.com.au, a few festval-goers said once they got to the bar, there was no sign of any maze and all they could see was “fake shrubbery” lining the walls.

“I seriously doubt so many people would have bought tickets if they knew it would be a themed club night at a bar in Bondi Junction,” one person told the publication.

“At one point I heard one girl say to someone that she had been watching people walk in and out of the dancefloor room saying, ‘Is this it?.’”

While the Facebook event group has now been deleted following the backlash, screenshots show how disappointed people were with the night.

“Very good con,” one person commented.

“Worst maze ever,” another said, alongside an emoji of a downwards thumb.

Another person commented underneath it asking: “WHAT maze? I saw no maze in there”.

According to News.com.au, anybody who had complained about the event has been refunded their money.
