Backlash begins over Melania's first solo trip

Melania Trump may be excited about her first trip aboard without her husband but it seems not everyone feels that way.

The FLOTUS announced last week that she would be flying solo for the first time in September, when she’s due to visit the Invictus Games in Toronto.

“I don’t know the estimated budget for security at the Invictus Games, but it will now have to be increased considerably to accommodate her and her entourage. I do not want to spend one dime of our tax money on the Trump family,” Jayne Rees wrote in a letter to thestar.com.

She went on to claim that the Invictus Games have never before courted controversy, however with Mealania’s visit, she believes there might be protests.

Jayne said the games could be “tarnished by her presence” and believes “’her trip may undo much of the goodwill our government has actively pursued to get a fair trade deal for Canada”.

Others took to Twitter to discuss their feelings over Melania’s trip, which will see her in Canada from September 23rd to 30th.

However others were delighted with the First Lady's decision to fly solo to the games.

Melania released a statement last week to say she was thrilled to be heading to Canada in September.

“I was heartened by the great success of the inaugural Invictus Games that took place in London in 2014, and the second games in Orlando, Florida last year,” the statement read.

“In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions – something that should be lauded and supported worldwide.
