Wal-Mart slammed for outrageous back-to-school display

Wal-Mart have been slammed online for a display marketing guns as back-to-school items.

An image of a tall, glass gun case filled with rifles and topped with a sign saying, “Own the school year like a hero”, has gone viral on social media with people lashing out at the retailer.

According to Everytown Research, there have been 233 shootings at US schools since 2013 – that’s about one a week.

Wal-Mart have since apologised for the display, saying on Twitter, “That it was truly awful. We immediately removed the sign from the display as soon as we found out the store location.”

They also added that they’re investigating how it happened.
