The moment Diana knew her marriage was over

It should have one of the happiest moments of her life, however the night Prince Harry was born Diana is reported to have cried herself to sleep.

While the Princess was besotted with her new son, her former butler, Paul Burrell, has claimed it was the moment she knew that her marriage to Prince Charles was over.

Burrell has sensationally claimed that because Diana had provided Charles with “an heir and a spare”, he was essentially done with investing time in their relationship.

“Diana confided in me that on the night Prince Harry was born, she cried herself to sleep. She said, ‘I knew my marriage was over’,” Burrell said in the Channel 4 documentary Princess Diana’s Wicked Stepmother.

He goes on to claim that Prince Charles felt free to pursue his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles after Diana gave birth now that he had two heirs to the throne.

It comes after it was reported that Diana gave up on making the marriage work when Charles had an accident in 1990.

The late Princess of Wales decided it was the "last straw" when her then-husband refused to let her see him in hospital but allowed his now-wife Camilla Parker Bowles to visit.

In his memoir, Diana's former bodyguard Ken Wharfe claimed Diana desperately tried to repair her marriage but it’s was far too broken.

"Diana confessed to me ... with absolute determination, that this was the last straw,” he said.

Her compassion was wasted on her husband ... what the prince didn't want, the public did."

The pair ended up divorcing in 1996, just one year before she tragically passed away.
