Kayla Itsines: It's time to get real on social media

Body confidence is the latest trend sweeping social media, according to fitness guru Kayla Itsines.

The 26-year-old is sick of seeing Instagram profiles filled with picture-perfect photos and no context, and she says its time to get real.

“There are some girls on social media at the moment who are pushing this big (idea) that it doesn’t matter what you look like, it matters what you feel like, and that’s what we’re pushing as well,” she tells the Daily Telegraph.

“It’s really important to talk about why you took that photo… or the hard work that goes into everyday life, or goes into yoga, or becoming a mum, or after you have a baby,” she said.

“Me 1% of the time vs. 99% of the time.

“You have to talk about those things. What’s the point of social media if you’re just going to upload a photo and say nothing?”

Now that she’s expanding her $46 million empire, Kayla is working with two other female trainers and hopes to motivate and inspire her followers.

She plans on using her massive influence to post more than just super fit selfies, and talk about less mainstream topics like periods and feeling bloated.

There’s been a wave of bloggers sharing side by side photos of themselves recently to show just how much better you can appear thanks to things like lighting and poses.
