The moment Diana told Camilla: ‘Leave my husband alone’

Diana confronted Camilla at a party and told her to leave her husband alone, the Princess’ former private secretary has claimed.

The Princess was said to be so fed up with her husband carrying on behind her back with Camilla Parker Bowles that she decided to take matters into her own hands.

Her private secretary of nearly eight years has claimed that as soon as the Princess spoke with Camilla, she knew her marriage was broken beyond repair.

Speaking on The Today Show, Patrick Jephson said Diana spilled all the details of her encounter with Camilla as they were on the plane home from a “very successful trip to Cairo”.

“The Princess and her entourage were flying back from Cairo and she said to me that she had confronted Camilla Parker Bowles at a party and had the courage really to say to her ‘leave my husband alone’ and the response she got sadly left her in no doubt think – and it was very upsetting for her - that the marriage was over, there was nothing more she could do,” he said.

In tapes released on 2004 by NBC television, Diana revealed exactly what Camilla’s response was.

“You've got everything you ever wanted. You've got all the men in the world fall in love with you and you've got two beautiful children, what more do you want?,” Diana claimed Camilla said to her.

"So I said, 'I want my husband'. And I said, 'I'm sorry I'm in the way ... and it must be hell for both of you. But I do know what's going on. Don't treat me like an idiot."'

Camilla and Charles have perhaps one of the most well-known relationship timelines in history, having met in 1970 and marrying over 30 years later.

The Prince married Diana in 1981 and according to unconfirmed reports, Charles and Camilla began their affair in 1986.

They eventually married in 2005, however with reports that the Queen is ready to abdicate and make Charles King, many are claiming the Prince is trying to get Camilla back in the public favour.

“What we have here is some advisors to Prince Charles who over many years have over the years have conducted a systematic, sustained and I would say very expensive PR campaign to rehabilitate a reputation of Mrs Parker Bowles to make her suitable to be the next Queen,” Patrick Jephson said.
