Harry and Wills' touching last tribute to Diana

They were aged just 15 and 12 when their mother was killed in a horrific car crash, and while still processing their overwhelming grief, Princes William and Harry paid a special tribute to Diana.

It's revealed in new documentary Diana: The Day Britain Cried - which focuses on her funeral - that the royals handpicked a bouquet of white roses to top her coffin.

White roses were one of the late princess’ favourite flowers, and as royal florist Lisa Webb explains, they were specifically “chosen by the princes”.

Opening up about that traumatic day for another documentary Diana, 7 Days, William says, “It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, that walk. It felt like she was almost walking along beside us to get us through it.”

He initially refused to speak about Diana’s death publically, but has been trying to lead by example in recent years and encourage others to speak up about mental health issues.

The prince speaks candidly in the new documentary, a testimony to his new openness.

Meanwhile his brother Harry recalls hows members of the public comforted him that day of Diana's funeral; their “hands were wet because of the tears they had just wiped away”, he says.

Prince Harry has previously opened up about how he should not have been asked to walk behind his mother’s coffin like he did.

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” he said in an exclusive interview with Newsweek magazine.
