How much would you pay for a piece of ‘royal’ wedding cake?

Would you be willing to shell out thousands of dollars for a piece of cake that’s SIX years old?

What if it was from Princess William’s royal wedding to Kate Middleton?

Well, royal fans will have a chance to get their hands on a boxed slice of William and Kate’s fruitcake when it goes to auction next month.

The piece is expected to sell for thousands of dollars, after another slice was sold for just under $10,000 in 2014!

The eight-tier masterpiece was designed by cake-maker Fiona Cairns and took five weeks to complete. It was the centrepiece at William and Kate’s royal wedding reception in the picture gallery at Buckingham Palace in April 2011.

The slice that will go under the hammer is displayed in a specially commissioned cream and gilt commemorative tin.

It even comes with a printed card that says “With best wishes from TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

It was originally a keepsake given to guests after the wedding, and now it could be yours!

The cake will go under the hammer at Chiswick Auctions on September 27 with a guide price of £800 to £1,500 ($1,300-$2,500) but higher bids are expected.
