Gold Coast mum’s amazing IKEA hack

One mum has come up with a way to make your IKEA furniture look super-lux.

While renovating Kylie Hughes discovered an ingenious ‘hack’ to turn an average run-of-the-mill $200 IKEA dresser, into a piece fit for a furniture show room.

And the best part – it costs as little as $9.95.

Kylie explains she wanted to get the designer look for her home on a budget.

Instead she founded online store Stylkea, which sells stick-on fretwork panels to add to your furniture, instantly giving you “designer looks on a flatpack budget”.

“I didn’t want my home looking like a clone of the Ikea catalogue. That’s [where the idea came from] for peel-and-stick panels, so the Ikea-ness disappears,” she told news.com.au.

With the help of her engineer husband, Kylie designed the panels to perfectly fit IKEA ranges such as Malm, Kallax and Besta.

She’s even been able to emulate the look by luxury furniture designers like Jonathan Adler, whose pieces can cost anywhere up to $5000.

“The panels are customised to perfectly fit, you literally just peel and stick them on, you don’t need any tools,” she said.
