Has teetotal Donald Trump taken up drinking?

He’s said to shun drinking as a result of his brother Fred Jnr dying of chronic alcoholism, but Donald Trump had the world wondering if he’s turned his back on his teetotal ways after he was spotted lifting a glass to his lips.

The President of the United States was seen toasting the United Nations during a lunch reception in New York.

Speaking about the “great, great potential” of the UN, Trump then sipped at a wine glass – filled with a dark coloured liquid – before quickly handing it to an aide.

It’s left commentators questioning whether Trump, whose brother Fred Jnr passed away in 1981 at the age of 43 following a battle with alcoholism, might be back on the booze.

'”Trump famously doesn't drink because of his brother, Fred. It looks like he just had a sip of wine. Has anyone else seen that before?” NBC host Katy Tur asked.

For Trump, who owns a vineyard in Virginia, his brother's death left a lasting impression he’s openly spoken about.

“He would tell me constantly, ‘Don't drink,’” Trump said in a 2015 interview with 60 Minutes. “And I've never had a drink.”
