Shocking collision at busy intersection caught on dash cam

A dash cam owner has captured the shocking moment two cars collide in a huge smash at a busy Sydney intersection on Monday.

The video uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page shows a Kia SUV waiting to turn right at the intersection in Earlwood.

The Kia driver has a green light, but no green arrow. From a standstill be begins to turn before a red car travelling straight from the other side of the intersection slams into the SUV.

The Kia spins from the impact narrowly missing a Vespa rider waiting at the intersection himself. The driver of the red car is a p-plater and is clearly in shock as his car comes to a stop.

After the crash the driver of the dash cam car gets out to check on the p-plater, while the driver of the Kia checks on a child that was travelling in the back seat and narrowly missed being seriously injured.

He can then be heard shouting at the young driver ‘Why were you going so fast mate?’, before bystanders step in telling both men to calm down.

Comments on the video slammed the Kia driver for turning without enough time, saying it was not a safe gap for him to go.

“That was NOT the fault of the p plate driver! Anyone who claims otherwise should have their license taken off them! Yes, the SUV was able to turn, due to no red arrow but it's also turn when safe to do so not when you think ‘oh yeah I'll make that’ and then just hit the accelerator,” one person commented on social media.

“How could you even think the P-plater was at fault? There was no green arrow. Other car turned when it wasn’t safe,” another agreed.

Others agreed the red car looked to almost camouflaged against the red bus that was stationary which may have confused the Kia driver.

“The red car was like a illusion. The car blended into the bus. This is what the SUV driver must have seen and thought the bus was stopped,” someone wrote.
