According to The Star, the nickname was actually revealed in the film The Queen, which starred Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth and James Cromwell as Prince Philip.

Speaking to the publication, the film’s screenwriter Peter Morgan said that there was a reason why Cromwell portrayed Philip saying: “move over, cabbage", in the movie.

“I inquired in royal circles and was told on very good authority that that is what the duke sometimes calls the Queen,” he said.

It’s believed that the Prince may have picked up with term from the French saying “mon petit chou”, which means “my darling.”

However, if you translate the term into English, it literally means ‘”my little cabbage”.
