Princess Mary stuns in Japan as speculation mounts she'll soon be queen

If the royal predictions prove true, we’ll be calling Princess Mary ‘Queen’, by the end of this year.

And the Australian born mum of four was looking very much the part while touring Japan with her husband Prince Frederik this week.

The couple - who have been married 13 years - were photographed strolling through traditional Japanese gardens in the coastal city of Kanazawa.

Mary, 45, was elegant in a white lace dress with a midi-length hem, while Fred kept it cool in a suit.

While visiting the city as part of their tour to mark 150 years of Japanese and Danish diplomatic relations, the royals stopped by the famous swimming pool illusion at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.

When viewed from ground level, the illusion makes it seem as though people are standing under water, and of course Mary and Frederik couldn’t leave without testing it out.

Royal watchers are reporting that Frederik and Mary will soon ascend to the throne as King as Queen, as they expect Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe to abdicate.

It comes after it was revealed last month that the Danish Queen’s husband, Prince Henrik, has been diagnosed with dementia and Queen Margrethe herself had to cut short a trip to the UK due to an unknown illness.

A statement released by the Danish royal family announced 83-year-old Prince Henrik’s condition.

“Following a longer diagnostic process and lately a series of examinations during late summer, a specialist team ... has now concluded that his Royal Highness Prince Henrik suffers from dementia,” it said.

“The extent of the cognitive failure is ... greater than expected considering the age of The Prince.”

Just one month prior to his diagnosis, the Prince had revealed in a shocking interview that he did not want to be buried alongside his wife.

Queen Maragrethe has always insisted that she will rule Denmark until the day she dies, however with her own health in limbo and her husband’s recent diagnosis, it’s thought she will abdicate sooner rather than later.
