Turia Pitt ‘so ready’ to finally meet her little boy

Turia Pitt is finally ready to hang up the working boots, as she prepares to welcome her baby boy in just eight short weeks.

The inspiring burns survivor can't wait to be a mum and says she is most looking forward to teaching her boy about resilience.

"There’s this idea that, as a parent, all we want for our kids is for them to be happy. Of course we want our kids to be happy. We don’t want them to get picked on, we don’t want to see them upset. But that stuff is inevitable. There’s just no way we can guarantee that our kids will be happy 100 per cent of the time," Turia tells Be.

"We all face challenges in our life. Part of living is accepting that we’re going to face times that are stressful and hard, and very often, those things will be completely outside our control. So, what I most want to teach him is resilience - the belief that he not only will go through hard times, but that he can."

An avid runner, swimmer, surfer, bike rider and all-round adventure woman, Turia admits she initially struggled to recognise that she was “carrying a little person” but has finally managed to slow down.

“I remember being in a little bit of denial when I first found out I was pregnant,” she says.

“I’m still exercising, it’s just a different type of exercise. I’m not doing 42km runs, just long gentle walks on the beach and that sort of stuff.”

Speaking at an event for Avene sunscreen, newest product ambassador Turia says this is her last week of work commitments before she takes time off to focus on becoming a mum.

With a due date in early December, she won’t return to work until March next year.

“I went for a surf yesterday, I’m using a surf matt, because when you lie on a board with your belly it’s really uncomfortable,” Turia explained.

“I took off on this really good wave but then I lost the board and I had to swim back to the beach and by the time I got there I thought yeah that’s me done.”

The 30-year-old, who spent 900 days in hospital after suffering burns to 65 per cent of her body in 2011, recently recognised six years since that day saying it was “bloody tough”, but she’s “never been happier”.

And although she is a little nervous, she is ready to meet her little man.

“I’m really excited about giving birth. Yes it will be hard and intense but at the end of the day I’ll get a baby from the pain — and how cool is that,” she told news.com.au.

Turia and her fiancé Michael Hoskin revealed they were expecting their first child in July, where she admitted she took five tests before she finally told him.

Then in July the pair filmed an adorable video to announce they are having a baby boy.

She says her pregnancy so far has been really “uneventful”.

“it’s been really – not boring because I’m growing a human – but there’s been nothing dramatic which has been good I’m really enjoying it,” Turia says.
Aside from becoming a mum, Turia says she has set her sights on running a marathon next year.

“Even though I’m becoming a mum I don’t want to lose who Turia is. But I want to be a really good mum, so that will be my main priority.”
