Kate Middleton's uncle Gary arrested for assault

The Duchess of Cambridge’s uncle Gary Goldsmith has been charged with assaulting his wife Julie-Ann Brown after a night out in London.

The police arrested Gary following a suspected domestic dispute around 1.30am Friday UK time and Scotland Yard has since said he has been charged with assault by beating.

Only hours earlier, he had tweeted a photo of the two of them having a good time at a charity auction, but it seems the night went sour before they got home, with a taxi driver telling UK media he listened to them near-brawling in the back of his cab.

“They wanted to go to their house. They were arguing, saying quite rude stuff. We got to the house, he paid the fare. She was trying to open the door [of the house] so he went over," Daniel Shepherd told The Times.

“She started crying and said, ‘Call the police, call the police.’ I did. The police came. He got arrested. They wanted lots of details. I had to give reports."

If convicted, it won't be the first time Gary has behaved less than impeccably. In 2009 stories emerged in which he was shown apparently preparing cocaine at his villa in Ibiza, Spain, and bragging about his connections with the royal family.
