Family find washed up letter in a bottle 29 years after it was written
It’s very rare you throw something in the ocean only for it to show up 29 years later, but that’s exactly what happened when one family made a crazy discovery recently.
Linda Humphries and her family were doing a “beach sweep” on Sapelo Island in Georgia in the United States when they found a glass bottle with a note inside.
Naturally, they opened it and found out that it had actually been sent from Edisto Beach in South Carolina, nearly three decades ago.
Linda then sent the note to the Love What Matters Facebook page, where it has since been liked over 2,000 times.
“Hello My Name is Miranda Dawn Moss. I am 8 years old. I am in third grade at Foster Park Union, S.C…. I came to Edisto Beach for a weekend…,” the note read.
Miranda had drawn a map showing exactly where she and her family were staying for the weekend and an address to write to.
Linda thought it would be fun to let her teenage daughter wrote back, but when she looked at the date on the note, it was dated September 29, 1988.
She then decided to trawl through the internet to find Miranda, even though all she had was her maiden name, her age and the town she used to live in.
“Within a short time, someone messaged me a screenshot of Miranda's Facebook page. I contacted her through Instant Message and got a response right away, 'Oh wow!!!! Yes!!! That's me!!! That's so amazing!'” Linda wrote.
She revealed that Miranda is now 37-year-old with three small boys and they plan to keep in contact by sending back some “treasures from Sapelo Island”.
