Prince Harry says Princess Diana rewrote the royal 'rule book'

She was the woman who was given the title ‘the people’s princess’ and now Prince Harry has revealed his mother, Princess Diana, is his role model.

The 33-year-old Prince was making a speech in Chicago, at the Obama Foundation Summit, when he praised his mother for her humanitarian work and claimed she had “rewritten the rule book” on how to be a royal.

"I think she had a lot in common with everybody, but she would also listen,” Prince Harry said, according to The Express.

"She was the one who wanted to change that.

"I will always look up to her as my ideal role model.

“Everything she did was having an impact, it was making a difference."

Prince Harry’s speech came just one day after he visited a school in Chicago with Michelle Obama to surprise the children.

The school was conveniently located right across the road from the Obama Presidential Center and Prince Harry and Michelle spent about an hour with 20 students.

Caroline Adler Morales, the former first lady’s communications director, told People that the hour-long conversation was "warm and wide-ranging", saying it covered how the Obama Presidential Center "will showcase the South Side of Chicago for a global audience," as well as "the importance of young people staying inspired and hopeful, and the transformative power of students using their voices to change the world."

Prince Harry and the Obamas are famously close, with the families both carrying out appearances and functions together in the past.
