Investigator snaps selfie with terrifying ghost face

A paranormal buff investigating an infamous US haunted hotel had the shock of his life when he snapped a bone-chilling ghost face in a selfie.

Roger Estrada, 33, took the spooky snap in the lobby of the notorious 113-year-old Hotel Redland in Homestead, Florida, during the middle of the night when he claims there was no one else around.

"Ever since I was a child I've been interested in the paranormal and I've always tried to capture ghosts on camera, but I've never been successful,” Roger said.

"This is really the first time I've been able to get anything good on film and I just can't believe it.”

The Redland Hotel is one of the oldest buildings in Homestead and Roger has been wanting to explore it for a long time.

"I've heard so many stories of the scary things that happen there. It's supposed to be really haunted.

"My friend who works there let me come around during the middle of the night when there was no one staying to see if I could catch anything.

According to Roger's friend David Torres, 28, has had a long history since it was built in 1904.

David, who works as the hotel's overnight front desk clerk and security guard, said he believes the establishment is "definitely haunted".

David says according to locals, a huge fire ripped through the hotel in 1913 and killed 17 guests while they were sleeping in their beds.

And in another dark twist, he claims a young woman was brutally murdered after she was thrown out of a window of the hotel in the 1930s.

David says there are also rumours the hotel was used as a speakeasy during the prohibition era and was frequented by infamous mobster Al Capone.

"I will often be here alone and will hear things during the night,” David says.

"I've been the only one here and I've heard footsteps coming from upstairs like someone is walking around but there is no one there.

"The lights will often keep flickering on and off. Things in the hotel move around and we think we've lost them, only to find it in a completely different place later.

"One night I walked outside at 3am to smoke a cigarette and locked all the doors.

"But when I went to go back inside the door was already open. I was the only one there."

Roger’s creepy image has divided the online supernatural community, who have likened the freaky face to legendary horror flick villains Michael Myers from 'Halloween' and Friday 13th's Jason Voorhees.

"I just started taking random pictures, not really sure of what I might find,” he says.

"I didn't feel anything at the time. It wasn't until I got home and started looking through the photos I had taken that I saw something weird in the background.

"I looked closer and realised it was a face. I was shocked. I couldn't believe that I actually might have captured something supernatural.

"Everyone I've shown has said that it's really creepy."

According to David, room 202 is the most haunted room in the hotel and even he steers clear of it.

"I've wanted to go into room 202 but I'm just a bit too afraid,” he says.

"Last week there were guests who were staying in that room and I don't know what happened but all of a sudden they just grabbed their bags and left.

"They were terrified, but they wouldn't tell us what had happened.

"It's just spooky. I can't explain it."
