Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle over a roast chicken

Meghan Markle has revealed that Prince Harry got down on one knee while the pair were roasting a chicken at their Kensington Palace cottage.

During their official engagement interview with the BBC, Prince Harry said the proposal happened “a few weeks ago” at Kensington Palace and the whole thing was “very romantic”.

“It was a cosy night,” Meghan, who was wearing her stunning engagement ring, said.

“We were roasting chicken. It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee.”

Prince Harry then interjected with a massive grin on his face, relaying how the proposal happened.

“It was a really nice moment – it was just the two of us. I think I managed to catch her by surprise,” he said.

Meghan then revealed that she was so excited she could barely let Prince Harry finish proposing.

“Yes, as a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing! I said, ‘Can I say yes now!’” she laughed.

The couple also spoke about Meghan’s massive diamond sparkler, with the actress revealing what it means to her to have something that once belonged to Diana.

“I think everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness is, and the inclusion of that and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to – to know that she’s a part of this with us,” Meghan said.

“And I think in being able to meet his aunts and... just different people who were so important to his mom, I’m able to, in some way, know a part of her through them and of course through him.

“And it’s – it’s incredibly special. And you know to be able to have this which sort of links where you come from and Botswana which is important to us and it’s – it’s perfect.”

Prince Harry agreed with Meghan, saying he reckons she would have been “thick as thieves” with his mother.

“I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends – best friends with Meghan,” he said.

And Meghan is certain she feels Diana's presence.

"She’s with us,” the bride-to-be said.
