Trump defends Melania by lashing out at critics online

Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to gush over his wife, Melania, after she was slammed for her White House Christmas decorations.

Last week, the White House wonderland was unveiled, however it was mercilessly mocked online by people who claim the residence is already scary enough.

Now, Trump has defended his wife against harsh critics and praised her for her dedication to her job.

“Melania, our great and very hard working First Lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ‘if you run, you will win’,” he wrote on Twitter.

“She would tell everyone that, ‘no doubt, he will win.’ I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) - and Country is doing great!”

The couple were slammed online last week with people claiming their spooky Christmas decorations looked like a Halloween spectacular instead of a festive delight.

The halls of the White House certainly look ominous, decorated with towering dark trees.

Trump’s tweets also come after it claimed in a Vanity Fair article earlier this year that Melania Trump never wanted to be First Lady.

According to the article, Melania was worried when Donald decided to go for the job of President of the United States, as she was scared what would happen if he won.

“She never wanted this and never had any interest (in being first lady),” a source told the publication.

Another source said Melania is happy to sit back now and let her husband do his work, which is why we rarely see her at public events.

“She doesn’t make waves,” the source said.

“She speaks only when spoken to. She’s just very sweet.”

However in response to the article, White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told the Huffington Post that Donald and Melania’s 12-year marriage is stronger than ever.

“Mrs. Trump is a loving wife and mother who has always put her family first and that will not change," Stephanie said.

"She is an independent woman who believes in our country, and continues her plans to serve as First Lady with integrity and dedication."
