Australia's most Googled terms of 2017 will surprise you

Is there a more accurate way to peek inside our minds than by scrolling through our search history?

Unsurprisingly Google thinks not, but their list of the most popular things we looked up this year may not be what you expect.

In 2017, it seems sports, global events and gadgets dominated our thoughts, while Hollywood scandals that rocked us towards the end of the year have also captured at lot of our attention.

The latest data reveals that the thing Australians searched for most (apart from 'porn' which is absent from the list) was 'Australian Open 2017'.

'Melbourne Cup 2017' finished second, while late singer 'Chris Cornell' and 'Fidget spinner'.

When it came to people, Harvey Weinstein was the top international person we searched for, while the Aussie who piqued our interest most was Sophie Monk, followed by Kate Fischer – also known as Tziporah Malkah - a former model who was once engaged to James Packer.

People were also very interested in how to make slime, why Pandora shut down and what exactly MSG and Bitcoin are.

Food-wise, we hit the online recipe books to find out how to make Beef Stroganoff, hot cross buns and hollandaise sauce. And it seems no one knows how to cook tofu!
