Mum’s hilarious account of accidentally burning Elf on the Shelf

If you’re a parent and trying to figure out ways to trick your kids into behaving for Santa this Christmas then you’ll be familiar with the Elf on the Shelf phenomenon.

Now one mum’s hilarious account of the demise of her Elf has left the internet in stitches and her scrambling for a backup plan in the final days before Christmas.

Mum-of-two Brittany Mease admitted in a post on Facebook that her Elfis is no more after she accidentally forgot him in the oven.

She explained that it was time for her to move him, after the kids had noticed.

“The other day the kids noticed that he hadn’t moved so when they weren’t looking I grabbed him off the kitchen counter and quickly tossed him in the oven until I could move him later and not raise any suspicion,” she wrote online.

She says that like with every family during the busy season “life got crazy” and she forgot she put the “freaking elf in the freaking oven”.

It wasn’t until she was asked to reheat some pasta in the oven a few days later than her blunder came to light.

“I preheated the oven and started cleaning the kitchen,” she explained. “About four minutes later I started to smell something REALLY funky and that’s when all hell broke loose and I broke my son’s heart.”

Using kitchen utensils, she pulled poor Elfis out of the oven but it was too late. His head had popped clean off and his feet were melted from the heat.

There was no way he was making it back to the north pole.

“I have to call Santa (in front of the kids) and ask him if he will please pick Elfis up tonight.”

Mum’s everywhere could relate and found her tale hilarious, with the post already being shared over 11,000 times.

“OMG!!!! We do a mad dash every morning to move the elf. Aaaand this is Elf #2. No idea where we shoved the first one,” one person commented.

“I am laughing so hard right now. Our elf forgot to move out of the box this year,” another said.

“This how you can get out of having to do elf on the shelf. Lol.” one mum wrote.
