The cast of Girls make a PSA about sexual assault



“She is someone.”

Lena Dunham and the cast of Girls have released a powerful new video message on Twitter, supporting the “brave survivor” of the Stanford sexual assault case, and calling for women to stand in solidarity against assault.

“We may star on Girls together, but that doesn’t mean we always agree,” says Jemima Kirke.

But one thing Jemima, Lena Dunham, Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet do agree on is the need to change the “default reaction to disbelieve, or to silence, or to shame” survivors.

Detailing the statistics where one in five women will experience sexual assault in their lifetime, with 80 percent of women knowing their attacker, the Girls stars say we have the choice to make things better.

Whether it’s through something as easy as a phone call, offering a ride to counseling or simply listening, “you already have the power to create a safer, healthier environment for women to come forward”, says Allison.
