Are you over or under? What the average number of sexual partners for men and women should be

Disclosing your promiscuous past to your partner isn't everyone’s cup of tea. Whether you’ve slept with one or more than 20, it’s the kind of information most like to keep private.

A recent study commissioned by Superdrug Online Doctor surveyed over 2000 people in the US and Europe to better understand women and men’s sexual trends.

The report found the limit of past sexual partners for women was 14 and 15.2 for men. Anymore than that and your partner may consider you to be too promiscuous, according to the survey.

On the other hand however, if you’re a woman who has had only 1.9 sexual partners or a man who has had an average of 2.3, some may perceive you to be too sexually reserved.

Interestingly, both women and men agreed that seven is the ideal number of past sexual partners. Finally, we agree on something!

Despite a relationship being built on honesty and trust, the report found both men and women aren’t shy to tell a white lie about their sexual history.

Some 8.2 per cent of women and 17.5 per cent of men have told their partners they’ve slept with more people than they actually have.

Funny enough, the percentages do a 180 when it comes to those who dulled their numbers down when it came to disclosing their sex life.

For men, 13.7 per cent have lied about having sex with less people than they actually have, while 18.6 per cent of women have lied about their wild past.

Hearteningly however, the research found the majority of both genders (67.4 per cent of women and 58.6 per cent of men) reported that they always tell their partner the truth.
