DON'T

1. Boast and declare "look at my ring!"

2. Say your ring is a replica and the 'real thing' is in the safe (even if this is true).

3. Complain about the weight of your ‘massive bling’.

4. Create a Twitter account just for your ring. Bit much.

5. Ask friends how much they think it costs.

6. Invite people to the engagement party that you don’t plan to invite to the wedding.

7. Be competitive with friends who are also engaged. Avoid saying things like "my ring is bigger than yours" or "my ring is more expensive".

DO

1. Tell close family and friends before announcing it on social media, if you think they'd be disappointed not hearing it from you first.

2. Acknowledge every ring compliment with humility.

3. According to Brides.com, the most gracious way to show your ring on social media is by posting a photo of your left hand that also includes you and your betrothed. However, posting close-up images of your new engagement ring can be a bit much.

4. Be conscious of bragging to much to single friends. Saying things like "your time will come" can be quite patronising.
