Not only is your engagement ring probably the most expensive jewellery you own, but you’re probably afraid of damaging / losing it if you ever let it out of your sight.

But according to a number of brides-to-be, there are certain situations when it’s better for your ring to be safely left in its box.

Working out or playing sports can put pressure on your ring. Doing contact sports like boxing will no only be uncomfortable, but it could also bend the shape of your band.

Even wearing rubber gloves won’t be able to protect you from the harsh chemicals, like bleach or ammonia, in the products which can alter the colour of your band or stone.

Chlorine in pools can discolour your ring and the salt water can also damage it. Cold water can also cause fingers to ‘shrink’ and alternatively, your expensive bling could slip off in the water.

4. Putting on make-up

Moisturisers, sunscreen and lotion are all prone to having grime that builds up on the ring and making it appear duller.

If you’re baking, kneading dough, your bling could get stuck in the food. And bits of food could also get in between the tiny spaces and under the diamonds, making it very difficult to clean.

You run the risk of chipping your diamond by using heavy tools in the garden. Also dirt might be difficult to clean if you’re planting seeds or pulling out weeds.

Your band’s diamonds could get caught on the tread of the gloves and if you pull too hard, you may risk damaging the ring or hurting or ripping your finger. Ouch!
