Date night ideas for the stuck

Whether you’re two months, two years or two decades into your relationship, we all know how important it is to keep the magic alive with regular date nights.

But beyond the usual meal at a nice restaurant or a silent trip to the cinema, it can be difficult to come up with original ideas that will feel more like pure fun than just something you should be doing.

So look no further than this fail-safe list of date night ideas that guarantee you’ll fall in love with each other all over again.

1. Cook for them

This may sound lame and cliched, but when was the last time you actually cook a decadent, slap-up meal for your other half?

Imagine walking through the door tonight after a long day at work to find the table laid, your favourite meal in the oven, and your partner dressed up to the nines, just for you. See what a lovely thought that is?

So imagine how happy you could make your beloved by doing it for them.

2. Go alfresco

If the weather is fine, throw a rug, a stereo and a picnic into the car and find somewhere pretty to feed each other brie and quince as the sun goes down. What could be more romantic?

3. Hit the road

If you’ve got more than an evening then load up with the ute with stuff for you and your partner, offer to pick them up from work, then surprise them with a road trip.

Make a playlist with all his/her favourite songs on to keep you entertained, pack their favourite snacks and stop for dinner at a quaint roadside diner before spending the night at a romantic B&B somewhere down the coast or in the country.

4. Share your passion

Life would be very boring if we were all into exactly the same thing, but there’s no better aphrodisiac than watching your loved one get all excited about something they care strongly about.

Be it sports, theatre, gigs, star-gazing or pottery painting – spend an evening showing your partner what it is that you love and why. Chances are, they’ll end up loving it too.

5. Get competitive

Reconnect with your animal instincts by going head-to-head in something. Hire a tennis court and thrash it out together, hit the snooker hall or for the less sporty amongst us, buy matching puzzle books and see who can complete the games first.

Of course, a forfeit will need to be paid by the loser – think back massages, foot rubs and the like. Keep it fun and sexy, no ‘the loser does the dishes all week’ kind of banter.

6. Have a bath

Again, this might sound a bit naff but done properly, it can be an extremely sensual experience. Kick everyone out of the house, including the dog, and pour a steaming hot bath with essential oils.

Light some candles, put some sexy music on and the minute your lover comes home, lead them straight to the tub for your date. Wash their hair, gently wash their skin, massage their shoulders and just see if that doesn’t lead to something more.
